A To Z Blogging Guide for Beginners

Ask and thou shalt receive. In what I come to learn, the blogosphere has its fair share wonderful people who are always ready to offer their help and point you in the right direction if you need one. All you need to do is “Ask”

Backup your blog. Losing your data is one thing, being unprepared is another. I really can’t stress enough how important it is to back up your data and take precaution lest anything goes wrong. If you are not doing it yet, let WP Database Backup automate the whole process of daily backup for peace of mind.

Commenting is the way to go. No question about it, blog commenting is a great way to build relationship with other bloggers. It is the most effective of method of driving traffic to your site. If commenting isn’t your kind of thing, grab a copy of Ryan ‘the kid’ Mclean’s Make Money Commenting or Danny Copper’s Commenting Blueprint before you are out of the game.

Don’t fake it. Unless you are damned sure of what you are talking about, it’s smarter to write something you are knowledgeable about or at the very least have put into practice before. It’s never difficult to tell when a blogger is faking it. The blogosphere is too small for you to lose your credibility this way.

Entertain your readers. Facts and details are deemed to be boring, you need to pay attention that not only your article should be informative, it must also be entertaining. Jay from SuiteJ did it really well here with his video review. Tell me what you think about it (…mind ya it’s addictive).

Focus on your chosen niche. One of the key factors to blogging success is the ability to define your focus and stay on topic 90% of the time. It’s nothing wrong to write off-topic articles once in a while but unless you are John Chow, no one is interested to know where you had your lunch.

Google tools. Having the right tools such as Feedburners, Webmaster Tools, Analytics makes a whole lot of difference to your site. With all the information at your disposal, it’s easier to stay on top of the game.

Help fellow blogger in need. Your sincerity and willingness to help, no matter how trivial the issue is, will come in handy when you need help from one of them in the future.

Interaction with your readers, in whatever form, is an important part of maintaining a healthy community around your blog. In such an impersonal world of blogging, responding to your readers’ comments adds a little more personal touch to it. Use your blog to start a conversation.

Joining social sites helps to extend your blog exposure to a wider audience. However, it’s best to choose which social sites you’ll join before it turns into “social networking overload”. Personally, I find BlogCatalog, Twitter and StumbleUpon have all worked pretty well for me thus far.

Know your competitors and yourself, you will win every battle – Sun Zhu (the Art of War). Well, I’m not referring to a ’seek and destroy’ strategy here but rather spying on your competition to understand their strategies and learn what makes them more successful than you.

Link building is the art of building credibility in the eyes of search engines, thus placing your site higher in their search results.

For the uninformed, it’s the process of building inbound links pointing to your own site which can be achieved in general through reciprocal link exchanges, article marketing or commenting on dofollow sites. Either way, it helps in creating awareness, visibility and credibility of your site.

Marketing is the pillar to your online success. The best contents in the world won’t do you any good if you fail to market it to your target audience. As the blogosphere is getting more crowded, it’s much harder to stand out so having the right marketing mix ensure that you can stay longer in the game.

Networking is an integral part of your marketing strategy and building relationship with fellow bloggers should never be the last thing in your agenda. Whether you are looking to improve your blogging skills or increase your readership level, networking is the way to go. Don’t be alone in the blogosphere.

Optimize your site for search engines. The key to SEO success is persuading search engines that your site is relevant in any search query. For a start, let’s take a look at 15 SEO Tips for Beginners that will push your site higher in search results.

Passion is the single most important ingredient that keeps your motivation alive. If you don’t have a passion in what you do, there will come a point in time when blogging becomes a drag and is no longer a fun thing to do anymore. In the absence of it, usually the slightest setback opens the best exit door.

Quality Article. Write from your heart, proofread and speak to your audience through your writing. These are the obvious points yet pretty much overlooked by the majority of beginners. Just remember that it all comes down to quality vs quantity.

Read more. The more you read, the more ideas you will get. I simply can’t think of a better way to learn from success of others than subscribing and reading other people blogs. It’s simply a great way to improve your knowledge and give you a different perspective of what you have already known.

Speed up your blog. Apart from choosing the right hosting provider, it is also important to ensure that your site is able to handle sudden spike in traffic and WP Super Cache does it pretty well.

Here’s 5 possible ways to speed up your blog.

Tracking your stats is an essential part of managing your online presence. Knowing how many visitors you have, where they come from, on what search terms they arrive, which pages are more popular and using all these information is the best way to optimize your site for better results.

Understand your audience. They are the very reason why you blog in the first place. Listen to their feedback and provide the kind of stuff they want to read and not what you want to write. Don’ t be shy to ask your readers what they want more of.

Vote for others’ articles. I often refer to it as “link karma”. You see what goes around comes around eventually. When you link out to others, not only you are providing additional resources to your readers, you are exposing yourself to them in the hope that they will visit your site and link back to you. Let’s see who is reciprocating my love here…

Walk the talk. Practice what you preach. Don’t try to be someone you are not. Your honesty is probably the biggest asset you can leverage to gain more loyal subscribers. Again it’s more realistic to choose the subject you are passionate about.

Exchange link. If you just enter into the blogosphere, you are better off exchanging links with fellow bloggers within your niche as part of your initial link building exercise. The key here is to be proactive.

Yan can blog and so can you. Don’t let the fear of uncertainty leads you to inaction. If you are still contemplating to start your own blog, all the reading and learning will not do you any good if you don’t take the first step to just do it. When in doubt, let me hold your hands and help you in your journey. See #1.

Zoom to the top commentator list. It’s no longer a secret that the easiest way to get one-way quality backlink is to comment on other blogs that rewards its most active commenters with a piece of a valueable real estate on their sidebar. If you ain’t sure where to find one, here’s the best places to get quality backlink.

10 Sources of Traffic Generation For Blog

This month I’m asking What is the Biggest Source of Traffic to Your Blog in our sidebar poll.

I’m finding the results so far interesting. It’s still early to draw too many conclusions although Google is a clear winner so far with 49% of the vote (in comparison to all other search engines with just 1%).

A number of readers have asked me to answer the question for myself - so I thought I’d do for both ProBlogger and Digital Photography School here in a post. Following is the breakdown according to Google Analytics of the Top 10 Traffic Sources - including the percentages of total traffic.

You can see a few obvious similarities between the two with Google an obvious winner again (although the mix is different in terms of percentages).

Top Traffic Sources to ProBlogger:

1. google / organic - 42.89%
2. (direct) / (none) - 17.59%
3. google.com / referral - 5.10%
4. stumbleupon.com / referral - 2.54%
5. yahoo / organic - 2.05%
6. twitter.com / referral - 1.87%
7. lifehacker.com / referral - 1.74%
8. del.icio.us / referral - 1.65%
9. bloglines.com / referral - 0.81%
10. technorati.com / referral - 0.79%

Top Traffic Sources to DPS:

1. google / organic - 30.54%
2. (direct) / (none) - 23.31%
3. stumbleupon.com / referral - 9.15%
4. google.com / referral - 6.22%
5. yahoo / organic - 2.20%
6. images.google.com / referral - 1.15%
7. mail.google.com / referral - 0.99%
8. lifehacker.com / referral - 0.97%
9. mibrujula.com / referral - 0.71%
10. flickr.com / referral - 0.62%

Traffic Source Ratios For Blog Success

So I was thinking, is there a magic ratio for success based on where your visitors come from? I don’t know the answer to this question so bear with me as we talk through this together.

If you take a look at your site statistics, the visitors to your site come from three basic categories:

* Bookmarks/Direct (type address into the URL box)
* Search Engines (keyword and key phrase searches)
* Referrals (links from other sites)

My guess is, depending on what the goals of your site are, the optimal ratios would be different.

Business site - the goal of your company web site or blog is to build a trust and relationship between yourself and a potential (or return) client. The product or service you provide is targeted at a specific audience and while, search engine traffic is is good for brand awareness and just finding you, it will rarely seal the deal.

1. Referrals - 60%
2. Bookmarks/Direct - 30%
3. Search Engine - 10%

Monetized resource/consumer product site - Whether your site is monetized through direct advertising, affiliate links, Adsense, or you are trying to sell a consumer product, search engine traffic becomes much more important.

1. Search Engine - 50%
2. Referrals - 30%
3. Bookmarks/Direct - 20%

If you have a good idea as to what your end goal for your web site is, it does make it easier to allocate your time and resources into going after the type of traffic you wish to attract.

My question to you - am I just stating the obvious or do you think there is a formula for success? Or am I grasping at straws? I would love to get your insight, opinions, and if anyone can find links to other discussions on this topic, please share!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is an acronym for "search engine optimization" or "search engine optimizer." Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO can do to your site. Many SEOs and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for website owners, including:

* Review of your site content or structure
* Technical advice on website development: for example, hosting, redirects, error pages, use of JavaScript
* Content development
* Management of online business development campaigns
* Keyword research
* SEO training
* Expertise in specific markets and geographies.

Keep in mind that the Google search results page often includes paid advertising and free organic search results. Keep in mind that the Google search results page includes organic search results and often paid advertisement (denoted by the heading "Sponsored Links") as well. Advertising with Google won't have any effect on your site's presence in our search results. Google never accepts money to include or rank sites in our search results, and it costs nothing to appear in our organic search results. Free resources such as Webmaster Tools, the official Webmaster Central blog, and our discussion group can provide you with a great deal of information about how to optimize your site for organic search. Many of these free sources, as well as information on paid search, can be found on Google Webmaster Central.

Before beginning your search for an SEO, it's a great idea to become an educated consumer and get familiar with how search engines work. We recommend starting here:

* Google Webmaster Guidelines
* Google 101: How Google crawls, indexes and serves the web.

If you're thinking about hiring an SEO, the earlier the better. A great time to hire is when you're considering a site redesign, or planning to launch a new site. That way, you and your SEO can ensure that your site is designed to be search engine-friendly from the bottom up. However, a good SEO can also help improve an existing site.

Some useful questions to ask an SEO include:

* Can you show me examples of your previous work and share some success stories?
* Do you follow the Google Webmaster Guidelines?
* Do you offer any online marketing services or advice to complement your organic search business?
* What kind of results do you expect to see, and in what timeframe? How do you measure your success?
* What's your experience in my industry?
* What's your experience in my country/city?
* What's your experience developing international sites?
* What are your most important SEO techniques?
* How long have you been in business?
* How can I expect to communicate with you? Will you share with me all the changes you make to my site, and provide detailed information about your recommendations and the reasoning behind them?

While SEOs can provide clients with valuable services, some unethical SEOs have given the industry a black eye through their overly aggressive marketing efforts and their attempts to manipulate search engine results in unfair ways. Practices that violate our guidelines may result in a negative adjustment of your site's presence in Google, or even the removal of your site from our index. Here are some things to consider:

* Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.

Amazingly, we get these spam emails too:

"Dear google.com,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories..."

Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search engines as you do for "burn fat at night" diet pills or requests to help transfer funds from deposed dictators.
* No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a "special relationship" with Google, or advertise a "priority submit" to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever.
* Be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do.

Ask for explanations if something is unclear. If an SEO creates deceptive or misleading content on your behalf, such as doorway pages or "throwaway" domains, your site could be removed entirely from Google's index. Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions of any companies you hire, so it's best to be sure you know exactly how they intend to "help" you.
* You should never have to link to an SEO.

Avoid SEOs that talk about the power of "free-for-all" links, link popularity schemes, or submitting your site to thousands of search engines. These are typically useless exercises that don't affect your ranking in the results of the major search engines -- at least, not in a way you would likely consider to be positive.
* Choose wisely.

While you consider whether to go with an SEO, you may want to do some research on the industry. Google is one way to do that, of course. You might also seek out a few of the cautionary tales that have appeared in the press, including this article on one particularly aggressive SEO. While Google doesn't comment on specific companies, we've encountered firms calling themselves SEOs who follow practices that are clearly beyond the pale of accepted business behavior. Be careful.
* Be sure to understand where the money goes.

While Google never sells better ranking in our search results, several other search engines combine pay-per-click or pay-for-inclusion results with their regular web search results. Some SEOs will promise to rank you highly in search engines, but place you in the advertising section rather than in the search results. A few SEOs will even change their bid prices in real time to create the illusion that they "control" other search engines and can place themselves in the slot of their choice. This scam doesn't work with Google because our advertising is clearly labeled and separated from our search results, but be sure to ask any SEO you're considering which fees go toward permanent inclusion and which apply toward temporary advertising.
* What are the most common abuses a website owner is likely to encounter?

One common scam is the creation of "shadow" domains that funnel users to a site by using deceptive redirects. These shadow domains often will be owned by the SEO who claims to be working on a client's behalf. However, if the relationship sours, the SEO may point the domain to a different site, or even to a competitor's domain. If that happens, the client has paid to develop a competing site owned entirely by the SEO.

Another illicit practice is to place "doorway" pages loaded with keywords on the client's site somewhere. The SEO promises this will make the page more relevant for more queries. This is inherently false since individual pages are rarely relevant for a wide range of keywords. More insidious, however, is that these doorway pages often contain hidden links to the SEO's other clients as well. Such doorway pages drain away the link popularity of a site and route it to the SEO and its other clients, which may include sites with unsavory or illegal content.
* What are some other things to look out for?

There are a few warning signs that you may be dealing with a rogue SEO. It's far from a comprehensive list, so if you have any doubts, you should trust your instincts. By all means, feel free to walk away if the SEO:
o owns shadow domains
o puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
o offers to sell keywords in the address bar
o doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear on search results pages
o guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you would get anyway
o operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info
o gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
o has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself listed in Google
o requests your FTP account information or root access to your server

How Many CMS In The Web World

People ask Always - How Many CMS Do You Think There Are In The World? So Recently I Went To All The Major Directories To Copy And Paste Their Current Listings Into A Spread Sheet. I Found A Total of 2941 CMS Listings. Of Course There Was A Lot of Redundancy, So I Ran A Regex Filter Plus Manual Removals And Found 1785 Distinct Names.

I Am Sure There Is Still Redundancy, Since Some Directories List Product Names, Others Vendor Names. Many Of These Are No Doubt Withdrawn Or Acquired, But I Am Quite Sure Many More Are Simply Not Listed.

Anyway, We Now Have A Rough Number To Quote, Nearly 1800 Listed In The Major Directories. There Is Surprisingly Little Agreement On What Is A CMS. Of Yahoo's 170 Listings Under Content Management, More Than Half (89) Are Not Listed In Any Of The Other Dozen Or So Directories.

If Anyone Wants A Copy Of The Raw Data Spreadsheet, Email Me And I Will Send It To You. For Those Who Just Want To See The Names (To Help With Naming Your Own New Cms Offering!), I Paste In The Alpha List Below.

How To Start Your Own Blog

1. Find a free blogging service, such as blogger.com

2. Register a catchy yet philosophically deep name for your new blog: "lifesucks"; "All Things Me"; "Lifehacker"; "Playing With Matches"; "The Internet Slacker", "I Stalk David Hasselhoff".

3. Consider one of the many pre-made website templates offered by the blogging service, or one created by you.

4. Turn your nose up in disgust at the thought of using a pre-made template for your blog.

5. Spend the next seventeen hours creating a functioning website from scratch. If using Microsoft FrontPageTM, relocate all children and elders to a safe area out of your "profanity zone".

6. Complete your self-made blog template by clicking on the "Publish Website" command in Microsoft FrontPageTM.

7. Watch in shock as the aforementioned seventeen hours of hard work gets permanently deleted off your hard drive by Microsoft FrontPageTM.

8. Swear so loudly all dogs within a five block radius begin running in circles and howling.

9. Declare "Screw It" and choose from a pre-made template. Always choose one with lots of kittens and flashing animated gifs.

10. Make sure the template is ready for your first blog entry. You can do this by going to your new blog's URL address and seeing if the page loads properly. It will have no posts yet, of course, as you have not actually written your first blog entry.

11. Click on the "Create Post" selection. The window will reload with a box for you to type text in.

12. Put fingers to keyboard in preparation to type your first blog entry.

13. Realize in horror that you have absolutely no idea what you're going to write about.

14. And you've got a whole blog ahead of you.

15. Stand up and get an alcoholic beverage to calm you.

16. Pace back and forth while racking your brain for a great post.

17. Cast resentful looks at your computer monitor while drinking the alcoholic beverage.

18. Come up with a touching yet funny childhood memory you can write about, like when you and all the other fat kids in the neighborhood used to take down the ice cream man not unlike a pack of lions ravaging a wounded gazelle.

19. Or, make your first post about how much you love pets. Remark on the fact that you let your pet pit bull out of the house every night to get some freedom and exercise even though the sirens from the ambulances tearing through your neighborhood constantly interrupt your sleep.

20. Or, make a heartfelt confession about how guilty you feel that you could never be a vegetarian because you salivate every time a nature documentary appears on the television.

21. Sit back down at your computer desk with your great idea.

22. Complete your first post.

23. Experience a fleeting sense of satisfaction that you now have a blog with an actual entry, even though it details your sexual attraction to Yoda.

24. Immediately phone all your friends and family to tell them the URL. Remind your grandmother that 'stiffwoodysdiary' in your blog's address is spelled "all one word".

25. Reload your blog incessantly every two minutes to see if anyone has made a comment.

26. Become enraged when the very first comment made on your very first blog entry is "yuo are teh sUxx0r!" from Anonymous

27. Go outdoors to calm down and get some fresh air, since you've spent twenty-two hours now working on your blog.

28. Tell every person you encounter - jogger, police officer, frantic paramedic - your blog's URL.

29. Head back home when an idea for a blog entry comes to mind, such as the rudeness of paramedics who can't be bothered to talk about your blog because they are busy helping some whiner with pitbull bite wounds on his throat.

30. When back at your computer, immediately refresh your blog's page to see if any more comments were made while you were gone.

31. Grip the edge of your computer desk when the second comment reads

32. Click on the "make new post" button on your blog.

33. Realize with horror you've totally forgotten the good writing idea.

34. Stand up and get another drink.

35. Sit back down at your computer desk.

36. Write your second post: how people who make dumb comments on blogs should be strung up by their genitals with barbed wire.

37. Complete the second post.

38. Stand up and get a third drink to calm you down from the blogging experience.

39. Watch TV while thinking you shouldn't watch so much television since experiencing life would probably make for a blog that's actually interesting to read. By going out more, you'll be able to continue to spread the address of your blog to bemused strangers, too.

40. Accept phone call from your grandmother asking you to change 'stiffwoody' in your blog's name to something more polite.

41. Refuse and hang up phone.

42. On the way back to the television, refresh your blog's page again to see if there are any more comments.

43. Experience relief when third comment is a non-abusive one. Become incredibly depressed when you discover it is written by a fellow blogger asking if you ever fantasize about wearing lederhosen while flailing midgets with kielbasa sausage, and if you'd like to meet up with him for same.

44. Stand up and get a much larger, stronger drink.

45. Consider making your third post. Repeat verbal declaration made in step #9, forget blogging for now, go to bed.

46. Just before you fall asleep, realize with horror you'll need to repeat steps #11 to #45 daily to keep your bragging rights about owning a blog (which, ironically, nobody reads).

47. Slip into an uneasy nightmare about being forced to type the word "sUxx0r" on a flaming keyboard while chained to Jabba the Hutt, who keeps demanding "More! Blogga Dooie! More!!!"

48. Wake up in the morning. Scream.

49. Read the new comments posted on your blog. Scream again.

50. Repeat for the rest of your life.

51. Welcome To Blogging!

It's Important For Beginners, Always Select Proper Niche For Your Blog Like Automotive & Aviation, It's Best For Your Blog.

50 Factors For Ranking In Search Engines

I have been asked this question many times and all the time I provide the same answer. The question asked is “What are the major search engine factors?” So, what do you think are the factors which decide the ranking of the website in the search engine ranking?

Here are some of the factors (in no specific order) which can help gain your website a better ranking. Just make sure that you are not missing any of them.

43. Linking to bad sites (called bad neighborhood) (negative effect)
44. Keyword stuff on the pages or over optimization (negative effect)
45. The speed by which new links are building up for a site. Is it consistent over a longer period?
46. Back links from DMOZ and Yahoo directory are considered quite valuable.
47. Avoid session identifiers (SID)
48. Deletion of the pages (dead links on the site) without proper 301/302 redirect (negative effect)
49. HTML validation of the document (I am not sure how much effect it makes)
50. History of the domain (did it do anything bad in the past?)

Did I missed on something? Add them in the comments and I will add it here.

What Kind Of Mistakes Newbies Make

Here are some of the biggest mistakes newbies make. If you are a newbie and making any of these mistake, its time to take your lesson.

This post is for people who are just planning to enter into an online business and want to make money online. With the economy going south and the more and more job losses everyday, this post can be helpful for those people.

So, have a look:

  1. Not believing that money can be made online.
  2. Assuming that making money online is very easy.
  3. Giving up too early (actually, at a time when you are just going to make it).
  4. Starting a “how to make money online blog.”
  5. Buying all those “make quick money” ebooks for $10 to $100 each on digital point forum.
  6. Starting many things together and loosing enthusiasm in completing them.
  7. Creating an e-commerce site (based on BANS etc.) of hundreds of pages and assuming sales will come.
  8. Entering into a niche which they know nothing about. Just entered because it is a profitable niche.
  9. Targeting very generic niches like automotive , aviation and not giving much attention to long tail keywords like "use used helicopter for sale" use small tell keyword like " military aircraft " .
  10. Not having anybody for their help (its not their mistake, but still).
  11. Not willing to spend any money or actually spending too much money (without know that it will produce results or not).
  12. Assuming that they are clever than search engines/advertisers and breaking their TOS.
  13. Using those link farms to get easy links.
  14. Spamming social networking sites and then getting banned.

These are the few which are coming to my mind right now. Do you know some more and would like to add here, please add them.

Shopping For Aircrafts

When you fly airplanes there are a lot of pieces of equipment that you may need personally or items that you may need to make sure that you maintain the ultralight aircraft that you fly in. There are a lot of items that are fun to buy and use while others are simply to maintain the aircraft or even your hearing. You may be a bit overwhelmed when you begin shopping, but there are some items that you want and some places or providers that you can shop with that will make shopping much easier. If you are going to be flying regularly you want to make sure that you purchase a David Clark headset.

The reason for this is that these headsets are everything that you need. Not only do they protect your hearing, which is important when you fly because even the quietest boeing aircrafts are quite noisy, but it will also allow you to hear in crisp tones at normal volume levels. Many pilots even say that these headsets are preferable because they are more comfortable, which is something that you want to consider because comfort is important so you are not distracted while you are in the air. There are a few different David Clark headsets to choose from, so make sure that you shop around a bit to determine which one is right for you.

These headsets have a great reputation because they have been around for a long time, but there is still a lot that you need to consider when buying because everyone has different preferences. Check out all of the options, you are sure to find one to your liking so that you are able to hear with ease while flying while simultaneously protecting your hearing, which is something that all pilots need to consider. If you are new to aviation there are a lot of names and brands that have been thrown your way. Your head may be spinning and you may be wondering which brands and resources will give you what you need.

One brand that you will definitely want to take notice of is Aeroshell. This is one of the most well respected brands in aviation and you will find that they can offer you much of what you need. Aeroshell products are made by Shell, which is also one of the most respected names in the fuel and lubrication business for vehicles. If you are looking for premium lubricants and more, you'll find that this is a brand that you can trust regardless of how often you fly. They have a wide variety of products for you to choose from, ensuring that you will have all of the products on hand that you need to take good care of your antique aircraft.

Boeing Aircraft

Continental Airlines has many new Boeing aircraft on order. The Boeing 787, B-777, and the Boeing 737. As a B737 First Officer, we are qualified to fly all the 737 versions that Continental operates. This includes the B737-300, -500, -700, 800, -900, and the newest -900ER. Over the past two months, we have started taking deliveries of the B737-900ER.The B-737-900ER is big for a 737. In fact, this airplanes actually holds one more person than the Boeing 757-200! It's long, heavy, and fun to fly. It has lots of new technology and I had the opportunity to fly it for the first time yesterday. Tail number N37413.

My first impression was it's exactly like the B737-900. However, after sitting in my seat, I noticed quite a few differences. The most noticeable was the standby instruments. They are now integrated into one electronic display instead of 3 separate instruments. The autopilot had more functionality as we were now given control over altitude and speed intervention during vertical navigation climbs and descents and one of my favorites is the ability to see a profile view of your flight plan and the terrain underneath you.

Our flight yesterday took us from Newark (KEWR) to Ft. Lauderdale (KFLL) and back. It was a nice day to work a day trip to Florida as the weather from the previous day in EWR had moved out and there was a break before thunderstorms were to move into EWR for the evening rush hour. Our departure early in the morning and I was flying with a captain who recently turned 60 and was taking advantage of the new FAA regulation that allows pilots to fly beyond the mandatory retirement age of 60 that used to be the norm.

I flew the first leg to KFLL and the route of flight took us over land until we reached Wilmington,
North Carolina and then over water until we reached KFLL. It was an uneventful takeoff and climb out. The airplane flew great and responded quickly to my inputs. After studying about the new technology the company provided us, I was anxious to put it to good use too. It worked as advertised and was a welcome addition to our cockpit resources.

My first experience with the B737-900ER was wonderful. It was smooth and responsive and the new technology was outstanding. As we prepared for the flight home, I commented to the captain that it was a great plane to fly.

Newarks weather had cleared up and on the descent it was cloudy with winds gusting up to 35 mph. It was perfect weather conditions to test the aircrafts ability to fly such a heavy load in very gusty wind. These conditions are challenging for any pilot, but a new aircraft and a heavy load added to the stress of this arrival. This flight also found us holding for 20 minutes for volume and gusty winds so air traffic control could space aircraft out further due to the weather conditions.

We finally turned and lined up with runway 22R in EWR and were given clearance from air traffic control to land. The captain did a fantastic job and the aircraft flew as expected . The touchdown and rollout were excellent despite the heavy winds. We taxied to our gate and cleaned up the aircraft for the next crew. This plane was headed back to KFLL for another turn this evening while the captain and I went home for some much needed rest.

The new technology of the Boeing 737-900Er is a welcome addition to the Continental Airlines Fleet. While we fly mostly new aircraft, the privilege of flying a brand new airplane that is still under warranty is always exciting. Thanks for reading, check back often!

Used Cessna 172 Aircraft

Many new pilots who are looking for their first airplane to purchase turn to the plane that they used for training. For many pilots that plane would be the Cessna 172. It is probably the most common airplane that is used for training in the United States and perhaps the world. With the popularity of this single engine plane it is no wonder that new owners set their sights on buying a Cessna 172. The new pilot will often look for a used Cessna 172 as their first purchase.

Because the Cessna 172 is the most popular ultralight aircraft manufactured there is a great inventory of the pre-owned Cessna 172 on the market. And although the resale value has remained high for the plane there are many fine bargains that you can find by searching and investigating. The used Cessna 172 has a great service record and certainly parts are readily available for any replacement needs. For the new owner the used Cessna 172 offers the opportunity to find a great plane at a good price. It is also an aircraft that you will be able to have confidence in to fly. You can search the internet for photos and specific information on the used Cessna 172 of your choice.

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a single engine plane with a unique tricycle landing gear. The reliability of the plane and the reputation of the plane are well documented. It is still in production today for owners who would like the pleasure of buying a new plane. It is a simple airplane with simple systems. That is why it is often used as a training aircraft for new pilots. This is why new owners like to buy the Cessna 172 as their first aircraft purchase. It is a simple plane that you can be happy with as you "fine tune" your piloting skills and log hours of flying time.

As the AOPA Air Safety Foundation has indicated the Cessna 172 is as safe as any plane can be. If a pilot maintains good skills and avoids big judgment errors, your used Cessna 172 will bring many happy hours of flying time to your life. You will enjoy the journey and the adventure of owning and flying a Cessna 172. It certainly is an icon of the small aircraft industry and remains that way today. Make your search for a used Cessna 172 a happy adventure. Good hunting!
